How the calculation works
Net pay is gross pay minus the tax estimate (gross times your tax percent) and minus any flat deductions you enter. The tax percent is a single combined rate that lumps federal income, state income, FICA, and any local taxes into one number. The flat deductions field is for benefits, retirement contributions, and other fixed amounts.
How to read the result
The result is an estimate, not a real paycheck. Real withholding depends on your W-4 elections, your filing status, your state, FICA rules, pre-tax versus post-tax benefits, and any wage garnishments. Treat the number as a planning figure and confirm with a payroll provider before making decisions that depend on take-home pay.
Practical example
$1,200 gross with a 22 percent effective tax rate and $50 in benefits comes to about $880 net for the week. Bumping the tax rate to 28 percent (more typical of high-tax states) drops net to about $814. Removing benefits at 22 percent pushes net to $936.
